Daily Betting Pick

December 9, 2009

Wednesday’s sports betting features mostly NBA and NHL action, so let’s take a look at what’s on tap:

NBA Betting: Portland Trail Blazers @ Indiana Pacers

Sportsbook Odds: Trail Blazers -4

The Portland Trail Blazers have been hampered by a slew of injuries. There will be no Greg Oden tonight and also Rudy Fernandez may be out. The Trail Blazers have lost four of their last five games and an East coast trip isn’t what the doctor ordered for them.

Pick: Pacers +4

The sports betting season continues as we shift our focus to the NBA. Tonight, Allen Iverson makes his return but he’s not the answer to the Sixers struggles.

NBA: Denver Nuggets @ Philadelphia 76ers

Sportsbook odds: Nuggets -7

The 76ers have lost nine straight games and they are in danger of extending that streak as the Nuggets visit. The Nuggets are one of the best in the West while the Sixers are completely lost. Iverson will give the team a little boost tonight but the issues are bigger than just him. Beyond that, the Nuggets are winners of nine of their last 11. They are humming along and Philly won’t stop them.

Internet Betting Pick:

And, in honour of the return of Allen Iverson:

We all know that the main attention in the sportsbook will be the Pacquiao Cotto odds, so here’s a breakdown of that mega event along with a pick.

Manny Pacquiao

Manny Pacquiao Money

Manny Pacquiao is money. On Saturday, November 14th, he will again be money in the bank as he takes on Miguel Cotto. While Cotto is the bigger fighter, he doesn’t have the type of experience that Pacquiao has – this will be his first big fight in Las Vegas. For Pacquiao, he has the best trainer in his corner and they are going to break down Cotto rather easily. If Cotto struggled against Joshua Clottey, he is going to get knocked out by Pacquiao rather easily.

Internet Betting pick: Pacquiao via 6th-round knockout

Most people are getting excited in the racebook for the Breeders Cup Stakes but we’ve got events to bet on before then. Let’s take a look at the Thursday night college football action.

College Football Matchup: North Carolina Tar Heels @ Virginia Tech Hokies

Online Betting odds: Virginia Tech -17.5

Virginia Tech

The North Carolina Tar Heels have been an absolute nightmare this year. They were supposed to be a decent contender in the ACC but instead, they are 4-3 and have yet to win a conference game. The Tar Heels hit rock bottom last week with a loss to Florida State where they blew an 18-point third quarter lead. The Hokies are rested off of their bye and will roll.

NFL picks: Hokies -16.5

Daily Sports Pick

October 22, 2009

While most people have their eye on the district attorney and what they plan to do with the potential betting ring involving the tennis scandal and No. 6 seed Caroline Wozniacki, our main focus is still the daily betting. Let’s take a look through the BetOnline.com book and make some picks for the weekend:

NFL Betting: New England Patriots @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tom Brady

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers get to lose a home game this week as the NFL scheduled this contest for London, England. On top of that, they are 0-6 and desperate to get a win, but they have to face the New England Patriots. Good luck. By the way, the Bucs defense gave up over 250 rushing yards last week and they lead the league in passing plays allowed of 40 yards or longer. Enter Tom Brady and Randy Moss as the Pats surpass 50 points for a second straight week.

NFL picks: Patriots -14.5

The College Football Weekend should be a good one with plenty of key matchups but we get a good one on Thursday night as well with a Top 25 matchup.

College Football Odds: Cincinnati Bearcats @ South Florida Bulls

Sportsbook odds: Bulls -3

Bearcats Cheeleader

To be quite frank, the Bulls don’t deserve to be favored in this game. Both teams are ranked, both teams are unbeaten and both teams haven’t had to play anyone too difficult on their schedule but Cincy has been the better team. The Bearcats have the two-time Big East Coach of the Year on their side and they have the better track record. There is no reason to lay points with USF.

Sports Picks: Cincy +3
