Daytona 500: Start Your Engines
February 12, 2009
The Daytona 500 line has Kyle Busch favored and since there doesn’t seem to be too many people worried about him being a one-year wonder, he should be worth a look at the upcoming event.
Jimmie Johnson finished up the year strong and Carl Edwards probably one of the best seasons in recent memory that will go unnoticed thanks to Busch, but are those guys worth a bet on Daytona?

Jeff Gordon odds look somewhat enticing as his new paint job on the 24 car should make things entertaining. Last time he got a new paint job he won the Championship.
I’ve heard people talking about Matt Kenseth as a sleeper pick but even though he finishes top 10 quite a bit, he doesn’t win as much, so I’ll stay away. Kevin Harvick is in the same class.
Mark Martin is being talked about for the Daytona 500 line but I’m not so sure. I really get the feeling that the top three guys, Johnson, Edwards and Busch are the way to go.
My bet on Daytona 500 line: bet on Edwards, Johnson and Busch and if one of them wins, you win at least +200.
Practice? We Talking About Practice?
February 10, 2009
The Daytona 500 line is posted and we’ll get to some handicapping and picks later on in the week, but it’s worth talking about practice.
Yes, practice.
NASCAR shutdown it’s engines in the offseason, banning testing and practicing. This has saved lots of money for the teams but more importantly, everyone is so jacked up about practicing this week.

Why hasn’t any tried this strategy with Allen Iverson yet?
What’s even more relevant for Daytona 500 betting is that without the offseason testing, everyone’s cars are still a work in progress, which makes the race even more unpredictable. On one hand, everyone is fresh. On the other hand, you can clearly make the point that no one will be at their peak performance when they approach the Daytona 500 line.
This could be one of the best Daytona races in recent memory and to be honest, I think I might have a wild card Daytona 500 pick – maybe a long shot. Stay tuned.
A-Fraud Takes Steroids; Is Anyone Really Surprised?
February 9, 2009
March Madness betting is down to one month and counting. For now, let’s deal with this Alex Rodriguez business.
So he’s a steroid user. Are you really that surprised? Does anyone even care anymore at this point?
I think a lot of people who hand around the water cooler like to have this type of debates but realistically, for thos who bet sports, it’s not that big of a deal.

What’s relevant to us is if he plays on a daily basis or not. Sure he took drugs. I’m sure it might cross the minds of thsoe who are betting on Daytona 500 odds as to whether a specific driver is getting an illegal boost. But at the end of the day, what can we do about it?
We can cry about it and hope it changes, but the reality is that we just have to deal with it. Just bet a different sport in your sportsbook if you want to make a statement.
