Well, online sports betting handicappers, Super Bowl XLIII is over. Naturally, that means it’s the end of the football season.

February has a couple of events, but nothing too major. The Daytona 500 is a big event but that depends if NASCAR is your cup of tea. There’s also the NBA All-Star Game…yawn.

So naturally, the next two best things that we are looking forward to are the World Baseball Classic and March Madness. Sportsbook odds have the North Carolina Tar Heels among the lead horses to win it all, even though they have a couple of losses. Duke is up there and so is UConn. The good news is that North Carolina doesn’t look untouchable, so the tourney should be wide open.

There’s plenty of college basketball lines to examine before we get there so don’t fret. There will be plenty of action to carry us until then.

Super Bowl XLIII Pick

January 30, 2009

Are you sick of Super Bowl betting yet? If you’re an online betting handicapper, then the answer is probably no. The big game is just around the corner and now it’s time to make a pick.

Steelers vs Cardinals odds: Steelers -7

Online sports betting sharps haven’t seen much line movement since the odds makers set up this line nearly two weeks ago. Both the side and the total have shifted by half a point.

The bottom line is that the Cardinals will have to find a way to win without their running game on the road. That’s been a consistent problem all season long. On top of that, the Steelers are physical beast and the Cardinals have shown a propensity to be soft on the road.

The experience edge, the coaching edge, the defensive edge all lies with the Steelers.

Online Sports Betting Pick: Steelers -7

Steelers vs Cardinals odds for over/under: 46.5

Those who bet sports have probably seen the lofty playoff averages for both the Steelers and Cardinals by now. The Cardinals have averaged over 30 points per game in their three postseason contests, which obviously helps you bet this game over the number if you look at the mat that way.

I don’t.

This game looks like a prime candidate for an under. For starters, it’s the Super Bowl. There will be a feeling out process in the first quarter and to get to 47 points, you need fireworks right from the get-go.

I see the Steelers defense setting the tone and setting the pace. The Steelers dont’ blow their opponents out usually and online sports betting sharps know that they’ll do enough to win. They’ll probably be in control throughout most of this contest and try to milk the clock.

Online Sports Betting Pick: Under 46.5

Super Bowl XLIII betting is all that we’re talking about right now so let’s take our mind off of it for a minute and think about something else. It’s still somewhat related, but it doesn’t have to do with handicapping.

Check out this ridiculous jump by Cardinals strong safety and 2009 Pro Bowler, Adrian Wilson:

Since he jumps like that, does that improve the Cardinals odds for Super Bowl betting?

I hope not because my money is likely to be lying with the Steelers when it comes to the Super Bowl XLIII spread.

Super Bowl XLIII Total

January 28, 2009

While many people have been looking at the side-plays for Super Bowl betting, not many people have mentioned the Super Bowl XLIII betting total.

It opened at 47 and quickly dropped to 46.5. Since that time, though, it has held steady at the number.

The two teams combined scoring average in the playoffs in 59 points per game, but it’s unlikely that you can play the over based on that very simple math.

I like the under for the Super Bowl betting total because I’m of the opinion that the Steelers defense will dominate the Cardinals offense. The Steelers have a stifling rush defense and their 51 sacks (2nd in NFL) display that they know how to get to the quarterback. If that’s the case, they’ll at least force the Cardinals to be one-dimensional and will probably force Kurt Warner out of his comfort zone.

If that’s the case, there is no way this Super Bowl betting total is hitting 47 points.

I look for the Steelers defense to dictact the pace and the total to go under.

Super Bowl XLIII betting total: under 46.5
